Cabinet Trends: Navy is the New Grey

Navy Cabinets RL paint

All colors should envy navy.  It is timeless, formal, casual, uniform and laid-back, all in one.  One would struggle to find a more flexible hue.  While the Jigsaw Designers are long time fans of this vast color, right now we can’t get enough of the navy cabinet.

White and Grey cabinets still stand safe and sublime, however, navy wows.  Whether in the bath or the kitchen this pop of rich pigment is clean and refreshing and always in fashion.

Navy pairs beautifully with marble and rose gold to create a fresh modern look with a touch of femininity.  While paired more traditionally with yellow gold, it is a tried and true combination.

Truly sophisticated when coupled with a neutral color palette, but combined with black and white, the visual is stunning.

Well suited for any style, the navy cabinet can blend into a myriad of looks – mid-century, traditional, modern, and industrial to name a few.

Must have trend right now: oversized waterfall island in marble with navy cabinets peeking out from underneath.  This look is forward and sleek.

Fresh Spin on Traditional Classics-Holiday Decorating Trends

With the Christmas season in full swing the Jigsaw Design team is spreading cheer in the season’s jolliest trends.

For all of you mid-century lovers the infamous flocked Christmas tree has made a comeback!  This beloved fake-snow beauty will be the  focal point of your decor as well as the party chatter at you’re swinging holiday shindig.  We love the look of mixing modern ornaments with the tradition vibe of the flocked tree to create a fun whimsical tree everyone will love.

How do you get this faux snow look?  Well, many Christmas tree farms will sell the flocking service on site and even deliver to your doorstep.  In most cases the spray is fire retardant, and is  available in different colors and sparkles.   You can also try this yourself by mixing corn starch, soap flakes, and water, or shaving cream and glue and then applying with a paint brush.  Last but not least, spray snow in a can like Sno-Blower for about $12 and available on amazon.com, simply spray the branches with the Sno-blower (preferably in a well ventilated place like a garage) and let it dry.

Our favorite trend in ornaments are mixing different metals just like the decor in your home.  CB2, Crate and Barrel and even Target are carrying a big variety of rose gold, yellow gold and silver ornaments.  Notable styles we love are the geometric shapes and metal snowflakes from the aforementioned CB2 and Crate and Barrel.  Starting with a basic layer in cream lays a nice foundation for gold and silver ornaments. Pop other fun colors from your space to create your own theme each year. Hot pink for a pop-art vibe or chartreuse or turquoise for a beach look.

What we love about the flocked tree and shiny metallic decor are the layers of light and texture each element brings with it.  The perfect culmination to this layered look is the white fur tree skirt.  A Mongolian sheep skin tree skirt gives a luxurious texture to the overall look of your tree.  It can also be complimented with matching pillows on your sofa or a nearby chair for a clever touch to your space.

What’s Hot in Hardware Part 1: Rose Gold

rose gold door knocker

Hardware is not just a finishing touch in the home anymore, it’s a showpiece.  With sleeker styles and fresh new finishes hardware for the kitchen and bath are taking on a more important role.  In previous posts we discussed how we love Rose Gold here at Jigsaw, and these hot hardware pieces are fueling our fire.

Knobs and drawer pulls are introduced in updated shapes with a modern flair, or classic with a twist.  We love the polished Rose Gold dice knobs and simple drawer pulls, while typical in design the rose color gives it a fresh look.  These small details result in a powerful update to your kitchen or bath.

How many hours will you log in front of the kitchen sink every week?   You may as well love the faucet you’ll be spending all that time with.  Who wouldn’t splurge on these Cyprum DornBracht faucets? The CYPRUM series is high-gloss finished hardware produced by using 18-carat gold and copper.  In giving the hardware a warm glow it carries a more earthy vibe than any other hardware finish.

Complete the bathroom’s warm characteristic by installing a Rose Gold rain shower for the ultimate in pampering after a long hard day.   Coupled with the hand held shower head, you’ll never want to leave your luxury retreat.

Rose Gold lighting and accessories are becoming more abundant in the marketplace as we see this trend growing.  Rejuvenation is a great resource for lighting, hinges, cup pulls and more.  The following image is a sample of a few Rose Gold pieces from Rejuvenation that the Jigsaw Designers love to use.

When updating your hardware as a new design element in a particular room it is best to add a few touches of the new finish throughout the home to blend well.  A few fun Rose Gold ideas could be adding utensils to your mix which will bring this metallic from the kitchen to the dining room.  If you are a fan of oversized mixers the Rose Gold mixer by Kitchen Aid would be the perfect finishing touch as well as conversation starter.

Precious Metal

Metal and metallic hues have fluctuated from gold to silver, chrome to brass for decades.  Well, there’s a new trend in metal making waves in interior design.  Made up of a mixture of gold and copper, Rose Gold has made its way from the jewelry market into home and commercial interiors.  Rose gold is THE color in metallic this season and it is welcomed with its warm color and soft feminine glow.

Capture the trend without overdoing this look by adding a few rose gold accessories to any room.  However not being the easiest color to find, light fixtures, mirrors, candelabras and throw pillows are quite readily available.  Try adding a few pieces to spruce up a room that is all neutrals.  It looks beautiful with hard wood floors, and pairs well with virtually any color.  We especially love Rose Gold with white, blush, burgundy, cream, navy and purple.

If you have other metals prominent in your space, try the fresh look of multiple metals mixing rose gold, yellow gold, and silver.  This look is very strong in the jewelry world and is naturally trending into interior design.   If you are a skeptic about this trend lasting, do it yourself with Rose Gold paint which is available everywhere.  Spray an existing vase and try the trend before you invest.

Jigsaw Designers recommend experimenting with Rose Gold.  This precious metal will give any room a fun updated look with a gorgeous glow.
