The White House

A snow white room layered with white décor is stunning and displays confidence.  There are friends and foes in regards to this look, where some deem it as cold and lifeless, others would disagree.  While not only making a space appear larger it also is a good way to cover up architectural oddities making the eye flow from the pops of color and interesting shapes around the room instead of the imperfections.

The All White House is also more flexible than you might think.  As we observed in the last blog in the Updated Beach Bungalow, the all-white look can fit nicely into most style categories;  french country chic, beach bungalow, modern, glam, and plantation to name it a few.   The look doesn’t have to feel staunch or stark, but actually comes across as inviting and calming.

Floor to ceiling white creates a crisp canvas for you’re the pure white room.   Accent colors pop, artwork leaps off the walls and accessories make a statement with little effort.  So how do you select the right white for your space?  The Jigsaw Designers have a list of their favorite white paint to work with.  Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White, and Behr’s Polar White are among the best.  Whites are either warm or cool, warm with it’s yellow undertones are more fitting for a traditional softer look, and cool white with more blue undertones are more stark  which are fitting for a more modern or Hollywood Glam style home.

The perfect white doesn’t have to stop at the walls and trim.  White floors are the ideal way to complete this look.  White flooring can be accomplished many different ways depending on the style of your home, existing floors and budget.  Glossy resin finished concrete slabs for the modern home create a crisp look that is very fitting of the style.  Porcelain and white marble floors work perfectly in most styles from Hollywood Glam to The Traditionalist.  One trend we are seeing more of is painted hardwood floors in a variety of colors and patterns.  In white this look can fit into most style category across the board.  It can bring new life to older hardwoods with imperfections and transform the look of your home.

Layering white on white creates the perfect back drop for colors to stand out.  Additionally, shapes have added movement, art is appreciated more easily, and the eye can flow about the room.  For a warmer look, try adding natural wood into a room like seen in the images below.  The bright white perfectly complements the natural wood giving way for the Rustic Modern look and farmhouse style to come into play.

Layering whites in different fabrics and textures enhance the drama in a room as seen in the Hollywood Glam space below.  Even adding materials like glass, crystal, metallic or mirrors blend in perfectly into the white palette.  The textured rug, chiffon drapes, mirrored table and metallic pillows all being simple in design add high impact to this gorgeous room.

The White House has no rules.  There is more freedom in this color palette that any other.  For as daring as the look appears, it’s certainly the most flexible in style and décor’.   Share with us how this look translated into your home, we love hearing from you!

You Make Me Blush

Welcome to the Jigsaw Design Blog.  We look forward to inspiring the creativity in each of our readers.  Throughout this blog we will keep you ahead of the curve on trends, unique findings, and even teach you how to create fun design projects yourself.  Today we will be discussing the biggest color trend of the season…Blush.

Blush Photo !

You Make Me Blush

While typically a very feminine color, blush is making its way on the home furnishing scene and quickly becoming the new neutral.  From the Paris runways to couture wall paper, the color du jour is the oh- so- sweet ultra-pale pink shade known as blush.

This haute trend is easy to fit into your home and your budget.  Update with smaller accessories like throw pillows, frames, trays, vases or simply a bouquet of flowers.

If you are more daring you can paint a wall or go the distance with a bold piece of furniture.

Our favorite mate for this chic girly color is navy.  It’s a perfect contrast that keeps this ultra femme shade balanced.  Try a pink throw across a navy sofa, or small blush pillow on a navy chair.

Blush also plays well with gray, black and beige.  Just a touch paired with these neutrals can add the ideal pop without overdoing this ladylike trend.

Our Jigsaw designers set out in search for the perfect blush; we believe we found it by Benjamin Moore, Sandblast #2103-50.

We hope you are as tickled pink as we are with this fun and feminine hue.

Summers arrives and everything blossoms, the spring rains usher in lush colors of green and inspire us to bring nature’s most soothing color into our space. The color green, in essence, signifies nature, life, youth, hope and safety.  Therefore, bringing green into your formal dining room plays off as comforting yet with a regal twist.  Use this lovely shade of green with muted colors for a softer look or make a bold statement contrasting with black and white as seen in these dining rooms that are sure to charm.

Sofas and accent chairs in the living room make a bold statement and create a definite wow factor.  A pair of kelly greens chairs with a small gold table for a sitting area is the perfect way to add a pop of color to the room.   The Jigsaw designers like mixing grand velvet green sofas with gold accents, charcoal grey and black and white as seen in the images below.

Our bedrooms are our sanctuary, the escape from the world to be completely ourselves.  If you are not one for a typical soft palette in your most private space, then the calming color green is the answer.  Known for it’s relaxing qualities, it has long been a symbol of fertility and was even the traditional wedding dress color in medieval times.  One trend that we are in love with right now that works great in the bedroom is painting walls and the ceiling your favorite emerald or kelly shade.

Green is very striking, it is the symbol of “GO” by all means, so adding it in smaller doses might be just enough for most of us.  Green drapes make the perfect temporary green fix.  Kick it up a notch by adding a black and white trim or using a fun green and white chevron pattern as seen in the following images.

Green with it’s many meanings including balance and well-being, are actually recommended by color experts in that adding green into your environment will help create a fresh new balance in your life.  A lamp, a bench, wallpaper, whatever it takes, just get some green into your space and enjoy the revitalizing and fantastically stylish feeling it gives you.

Dreaming of Summer: Banana Leaves and Pink Flamingos

After New Year celebrations are over, and the new resolutions begin to fade the bright sun begins to show it’s face.    Just as the weather, we all feel the mood for a change.  The hope of summer is on the horizon.  A quirky trends that we are seeing rear it’s ‘pink head’ are funny flamingos and their complimentary banana trees.  Think Miami, Palm Beach, and our muse for this post, the Beverly Hills Hotel.

While the ‘Pink Palace’ has recently undergone renvations, the landmark hotel is staying true to color.  For those lovers of the old Hollywood era, or the fast life circa Miami Vice, this trend can actually acclimate into ones style more subtly that one might think.

One way to capture the banana leaf vibe is through wallpaper.  This motif brings life to your space with the bright layers of green color, along with a fun retro ferver.  Ideal for a lively dining room, powder room,  or perfectly invigorating for your home office.  A note to remember is big prints in a small space can look great, so don’t be afraid of that tiny space you want to make over.

The above photo with the pink dining chairs is a good transition spot to bring in the birds.  Combining pink and green colors in the same palette evoke a preppy yet lighthearted feeling in us.  The beloved banana leaf and flamigo pink prove a sunny match like the Beverly Hills Hotel Cabana.

Meanwhile, flamingos are beautiful creatures despite the bad wrap they get from those plastic posers people put in the front yard…but hey, even the coolest hipsters are adding these quirky birds to their landscapes these days.  We will bypass discussing them for their fine feathered friends in this post however.

Interestingly, flamingos can be used in murals, found as wallpaper, and even a subtle watercolor painting, a Jigsaw favorite.  These birds have a great depth of color ranging from the palest pink to vibrant coral, with the perfect splash of black.  These gracefully winged friends are a lovely way to add a touch of pink and nature to your space.

Champagne: Hardware Color of the Month

Let’s toast this season’s hottest hardware color, champagne!  Blurring the lines between yellow and rose gold, this hue stands out in more matte finishes offering a sublte alternative to its typically shiny finish.

The lovely metallic offers the perfect compliment to the kithen or bath especially when paired grey, blue, black or white cabinets.

The Jigsaw designers have always had a fondness for gold finishes. But this one we are really embracing.  We suggest a bold statement piece like Jonathan Adler’s Sputnik chandelier to wow your visitors.  Perfect for the entry, dining room, bed or bath this mid-century throw-back is a stunner.

If you’d like something a bit more streamline, then nothing softens a space like the perfectly lit wall sconce.  West Elm’s Glass Cyliner Sconce in Champagne luster has a beautiful finish in a minimal design…this style is also available as a pendant lamp.

Furthermore, metallic tile is a trend on the rise.  This fun peel and stick champagne tile is a great options for an apartment or office where making a permanant change is not an option.

Pop the champagne and just go all the way with a room layered in the hue from trims, fabrics, wallpaper and hardware.

This beloved fabric has been synonymous with fashion and interiors since the Renaissance.  Though the textile has been watered down through the centuries and can be found at any price point, the velvet we are in love with has a great hand and quality that can stand the test of time.  The Jigsaw Designers are big fans of Jonathan Adler’s velvet for example his rich sapphire blue Gold Finger collection that is trimmed in gold metal as seen in the photo below.

Soft cream and grey velvets are timeless and an ideal way to impliment the color for longevity.  The colors are also perfect for the holidays too.  Create a winter white space with hints of greys, gold, and creams for a Joyeux Noel.

Cannabis Dispensaries-The New Social Scene Among the Cannabis Community

dispincary-2-apothocarium-sfran

Complements of the growing legalization of marijuana/cannabis dispensaries, cannabis dispensaries are popping up everywhere.  What were once haunted by a negative perception, the dispensary marketplace is evolving into chic new hangouts among the cannabis community.

Jigsaw Design Group has found themselves being a forerunner in this industry in bringing hip design to the sudden competitive market in Southern California.  “We focus on designing beautiful and welcoming spaces, we are also continually educating ourselves on the best environments to house the products [plants and food], displaying the merchandise, and clinical building regulations,” shares Michelle the principle designer for the firm.  “Thanks to our renderings services our reach is not limited to California, we can create great design for facilities all across the country, and then depending on the clients needs, we can do the install or simply render the designs for the client to seek out their own contractors,” Michelle further explains.

This industry is fast growing and a newly acceptable industry. Twenty-five states and District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form.  Soon, there will be more and more states jumping on board and the demand for appealing design for dispensaries will be in paramount.

Meanwhile, dispensaries are becoming the new social scene, and just as in the food and beverage industry, people want to frequent places that are inviting and beautiful.  From the lobby area to the retail space, creating a comfortable atmosphere that is aesthetically pleasing will enhance the experience for the consumer as well as the staff’s work environment.

The Jigsaw Designers have installed a number of fresh looks for cannabis hangouts from hipster vibes, to glam settings with chandeliers, to graffiti walls.  It comes down to selecting a look that your customer can relate to, your personal style, and functionality.  As sampled in the following renderings, a few different looks are created for the same space, offering the client the opportunity to really capture the essence of the final product.

This emerging niche often has multiple moving parts so good design is key. Therefore, finding an interior designer or architect with industry specific experience is imperative.  For more information on cannabis dispensaries and dispensary design, leave a comment below or visit our contact page at www.jigsawdesigngroup.com and a  designer will get back to you.  Be sure to subscribe to the blog and like us on Facebook!

Cabinet Trends: Navy is the New Grey

Navy Cabinets RL paint

All colors should envy navy.  It is timeless, formal, casual, uniform and laid-back, all in one.  One would struggle to find a more flexible hue.  While the Jigsaw Designers are long time fans of this vast color, right now we can’t get enough of the navy cabinet.

White and Grey cabinets still stand safe and sublime, however, navy wows.  Whether in the bath or the kitchen this pop of rich pigment is clean and refreshing and always in fashion.

Navy pairs beautifully with marble and rose gold to create a fresh modern look with a touch of femininity.  While paired more traditionally with yellow gold, it is a tried and true combination.
