White is a timeless hue that is never out of style. Containing the power of positivity on our psyche it’s a harmonious note that streams between purity, clarity, and sophistication in our subconscious. As for interior design, it naturally benefits from visually creating a perception of more space.

Benjamin Moore carries quite a hit list of whites for 2016. The Jigsaw Design Team are currently big fans of several of the white hues namely Paper White that has a hint of grey, and Simply White, a slightly warmer tone.

Paper White in the bath is clean and refreshing, as well as for the living room to echo light around the space.

Simply White is pure with warm touches, perfect for a sitting room or bedroom. Its subtly and clarity are relaxing for a great night of sleep.

Another way to bring this statement making color into your space is through using white brick on one or two walls. This looks amazing in an industrial space, but can work well in a modern or minimal home as well.

Periwinkle-Color of the Month

The wonderfully flexible hue, Periwinkle, is the Jigsaw Design team’s color choice of the month. While it’s true color is a bit debatable, it spans the spectrum between slightly blue and barely purple. This color’s range is vast and can be interpreted to fit almost any style.

Our favorite slant on the blue side of periwinkle is Periwinkle Dream by Valspar.

…and Periwinkle by Dunn Edwards on the lavender side of periwinkle.

This delightfully cheerful color is not just for little girl bedrooms anymore. It can be light and beachy for your coastal retreat, or dramatic for a sexy city abode. A lively place to try the color is the dining room, and one can see how the hue blends seamlessly into the different design styles below. From a circular space in the Parisian apartment with dramatic red contrasting chandeliers, to the coastal and traditional side of the multifaceted color; this refreshing color works beautifully in all scenarios.

Play up layers of pinks, purples and even teal in the living room for color filled spaces that intrigue.

The Periwinkle shade can also create a soothing affect perfectly fitting for the bedroom. The soft periwinkle linens in the cottage style bedroom are the ideal bed companion. We are also loving the p X Ottoman chairs in the traditional room with faintly painted walls.

Rainbow Bright-Color Trends

The rainbow effect in home decor is a bold move, and also a happy one. Nothing sends a more cheery vibe than a rainbow array of colors to come home to everyday. The rainbow’s past reputation may have leaned towards more of a juvenile color scheme fit for a baby nursery, but in this post, we’ll prove your preconceived notions wrong.

To achieve this look one needs to start with high quality furnishings and craftsmanship to not come off looking cheap. Secondly, mixing textures and layering colors create a cozy environment like in the above image. The rich velvety sofa and sateen fuchsia chairs are dramatic yet very inviting.

The Jigsaw Designers love adding a bit of whimsy to a space like the indoor swing above; it relaxing and inspiring at the same time. Ditch the chrome stools for a striking set in your favorite rainbow brights this spring to liven up the kitchen or breakfast bar.

If you’re inner ‘Dorthy’ is ready to commit to the cheery somewhere-over-the-rainbow vibe, add something a bit more permanent like painting the stairs or implementing your favorite hues to your kitchen reno like the harmonious colors above. Rock the Croc: Jigsaw’s Top Reptile Picks

Spring 2016 is the season to invest in our slithery animal kingdom friends. All things crocodile, snake, lizard, and python are hot! Whether you have the conscience for faux or faux-real (aka authentic ), in this post we’ll feature faux items we can really get behind!

Style and function are both satisfied in this Ralph Lauren Home trunk bar. It is stately and sophisticated and we love it! Cleverly named the One-Fifth Trunk Bar, this kitsch little number is a Pullman style trunk bar with embossed crocodile leather and polished brass stand. It features a mahogany interior and a mirrored back panel. Includes storage for barware, mixing surfaces and custom fitted wells. Martini anyone???

One of the Jigsaw team’s favorite ways to introduce reptile into a client’s home is with a bench. A reptile bench is perfect for the foot of the bed, down a hallway, in an alcove…just about anywhere will do. We can’t get enough of the Moreletti Crocodile-Embossed Bench by Massoud at Horchow. At $1799, this is a solid addition to any space.

Faux reptile pieces are not limited to natural colors. Bright eye popping colors inspire in pastels, metallics, jewel tones-all hot this spring. Kelly Wearstler killed it with these gorgeous pink faux snake chairs for this Bel Air home office.

While most designer reptile pieces will cost you a pretty penny, you can rock croc that won’t break your budget. For example this fun Threshold™ Faux Snake Skin Lamp for Target at $54.99; or this fun metallic faux croc trunk printed on high-quality textured vinyl.

Take the trend a different direction with embossed wallpaper. Give your fireplace a whole new meaning by applying the paper all the way to the ceiling. This dramatic focal point will certainly satisfy. Available in mattes and metallics in a variety of colors. The fireplace with antlers below is Ralph Lauren about $55 per roll.

Fresh Color Trio-Chartreuse, Charcoal & Gold

As we celebrated Modernism Week in Palm Springs recently, the Jigsaw Design team found themselves inspired with countless design ideas. One lovely vintage settee was the inspiration for this particular post, however. While happening upon a lovely booth filled with antique chairs trimmed in gold with chartreuse green and gold seats, charcoal painted walls, completed with gold leaf vintage table with turquoise blown glass tea set, our minds were lead to revel in the many things we loved about this look.

While the chartreuse and gold felt bold and glamours, the combination seemed somehow, light. When paired with a charcoal background it suddenly felt as if you’d gone back in time; an authentic retro vibe, however remaining quite modern. Hence fueling our need to seek out more of this captivating color combination.

Being the ideal room to play up drama, the dining room makes for the perfect spot to experiment with this tantalizing trio. This dining room is a perfect example of drama with a touch of academia. Charcoal walls draped velvet chartreuse curtains on gold rods. The vintage chandelier and bust finish off the look for one spectacular dining room.

Make your sitting room a tad more provocative to inspire real conversation! Dark charcoal narrow shelves in this space create a perfectly curated art gallery that sets the stage for the chartreuse love seat to really pop. On a more subtle level, try adding a few chartreuse throw pillows onto a dark grey sofa like the pair of dark grey chaise lounges in the image below.

The bright green resembling life and newness is lovely choice for the kitchen. It is made modern when paired with grey cabinets and dining table. The Jigsaw team loves using an accent color on the ceiling like seen in the image below. It gives the refreshing feeling of green without making the whole room green.

Appliance Trend-Black Beauty

While once chic as your Nagel painting and black lacquer furniture, the not-so- 80’s black kitchen appliance is back with a vengeance.

No better way to celebrate the revival than with this black beauty- Le Cornue Grand Palais 180 (see our blog on Luxury Stoves for all the details). These ovens are custom made to your taste, black on black, black with silver/gold/or rose gold trim, you name it they will make it for you. One can also feel like a celebrity chef with a black Bertazzoni as well. This baby will set you back $10K but with it’s modern lines and trim details your kitchen will wow.

Every girl loves a little gloss! Black gloss cabinets and appliances in a white kitchen create a sleek statement. Black appliances definitely make the most sense but are not limited to more modern kitchens or kitchens with darker or even black cabinets. The Jigsaw designer love pairing all black kitchen cabinets and appliances with white countertops like in following photo.

Samsung has a black stainless steel collection that is smudge resistant and has a very updated texture and tone. This finish is available in their higher price point models of refrigerators, ranges, dishwasher and microwaves. Its matte black stainless look works well with grey cabinets and light grey back splash as seen in the following image.

The big question is, will black appliances become the stainless steel we all have today? Only time can tell. Maybe if companies will add some details, trims and finishes to the high end european brands like Le Cornue then the market will broaden. Let’s face it, some of us enjoy a bit more detail in our space and adding a little flair to the over simplified options we have now, this market segment will grow.

Pretty in Pink-Color of the Month

Pink is not just for Barbie anymore. 2016 is fairing a very fine start for this ladylike hue. Launching these girly vibes into the new year were top celebs on the Golden Globe red carpet. While these divas rocked these gorgeous frocks, the Jigsaw designers will take you down the red carpet in home decor in their pretty pink shades.

Kate Hudson dazzled in her nude meets blush beaded dress reminiscent of I Dream of Jeanine. This soft muted tone is so neutral is can be used on a grand scale or little touches. Like this fun puckered lips print found on etsy. Playing well with most colors, but we find it especially fun with bright yellow in this lighthearted kids space.

Alway chic and somewhat avant-guard is the lovely Cate Blanchett.

Her 20’s vibe with oodles of fringe in pale pink turned heads as usual. The sheen of her dress and the era are reflected in this gorgeous bedroom with pale pink walls, velvet headboard and curtains. We are also loving this pale pink glam velvet sofa with clean lines making the shape more flexible for different genres of style.

Leslie Mann won our hearts in the blush category contrary to famed Perez Hilton’s opinion.

While silk chiffon in blush was complimented by delicate beading, the Jigsaw Design team like to rock this girly color with studs. For example this headboard with nailheads also found on Etsy. Likewise, taking this delicate color to new heights like the cloud geometric print by Lola and Lila could we a lovely finishing touch to your space.

However having a lifetime love affair with Christian Dior we are feeling the bubble gum pink of Katy Perry’s dress, we can’t say the same for the silhouette…sorry Dior…

On the other hand, we can’t get enough of this bubble gum Eames Ball chair. For the more conservative side, try a classic Chippendale style chair in this timeless color.

Once being reserved for little girls rooms, Betsey Johnson and Angeline, this flirty color has made its way into every room of the house in dozens of lovely hues and we are loving it here at Jigsaw! Stay tuned for more exciting colors in 2016 with our Color of the Month Blog Series!

Iridescent Style-Shine with Opulence

One of our favorite merging design trends to watch for in 2016 is the luminous ever changing shine of iridescent.

The Jigsaw Design team has seen growing popularity in all things iridescent. From wallpaper to furniture options are growing by the number. Take for example artistic furniture designer Patricia Urqiola, Her shimmer series offers tables, consoles and shelving in this opalescent hue that seems to be ever changing from angle to angle.

Iridescent wallpaper is a great option for an accent wall. A hallway or small sitting room are great places to add this look into your home.

Equally, using iridescent tile for a powder room or bathroom add a touch of glam to these spaces. Wether on the wall or on the floor these tiles are available in so many iridescent colors from dark hues to pure white, all with an opalescent rainbow sheen. The iridescent gold above the tub in this master bath gleams with added depth below.

Like the iridescent look but don’t want a big commitment? Add touches of iridescent through a few accessories like a pearlescent vase or bowl on the dining table.

Likewise, the glass globe by Sebastian Scherer is so simple in style but the iridescent sheen makes it wonderfully interesting. For a beachside vibe an iridescent capiz chandelier as a focal point can be the perfect touch. The changing light from every angle will give your room a wow factor!

Fresh Spin on Traditional Classics-Holiday Decorating Trends

With the Christmas season in full swing the Jigsaw Design team is spreading cheer in the season’s jolliest trends.

For all of you mid-century lovers the infamous flocked Christmas tree has made a comeback! This beloved fake-snow beauty will be the focal point of your decor as well as the party chatter at you’re swinging holiday shindig. We love the look of mixing modern ornaments with the tradition vibe of the flocked tree to create a fun whimsical tree everyone will love.

How do you get this faux snow look? Well, many Christmas tree farms will sell the flocking service on site and even deliver to your doorstep. In most cases the spray is fire retardant, and is available in different colors and sparkles. You can also try this yourself by mixing corn starch, soap flakes, and water, or shaving cream and glue and then applying with a paint brush. Last but not least, spray snow in a can like Sno-Blower for about $12 and available on amazon.com, simply spray the branches with the Sno-blower (preferably in a well ventilated place like a garage) and let it dry.

Our favorite trend in ornaments are mixing different metals just like the decor in your home. CB2, Crate and Barrel and even Target are carrying a big variety of rose gold, yellow gold and silver ornaments. Notable styles we love are the geometric shapes and metal snowflakes from the aforementioned CB2 and Crate and Barrel. Starting with a basic layer in cream lays a nice foundation for gold and silver ornaments. Pop other fun colors from your space to create your own theme each year. Hot pink for a pop-art vibe or chartreuse or turquoise for a beach look.

What we love about the flocked tree and shiny metallic decor are the layers of light and texture each element brings with it. The perfect culmination to this layered look is the white fur tree skirt. A Mongolian sheep skin tree skirt gives a luxurious texture to the overall look of your tree. It can also be complimented with matching pillows on your sofa or a nearby chair for a clever touch to your space.

Tufted Love-Jigsaw’s Top Picks- Chesterfield Sofas

Gracing royal palaces and chic abodes around the world for centuries this luxurious style had many interpretations. Take Roche Bobois’ point of view with the fresh take on the chesterfield by Phillee Bouix. Upholstered in Cabaret velvet and silk this look is sleek and updated.
