The rich and regal colors of navy and gold are this month’s dynamic color combo of the month. These classic colors paired together make for moody comfort like no other. Combined they elevate any style from masculine, beachy, deco, or regency. In this post we will explore the many different looks of navy and gold, plus designer tips and picks from our design team at Jigsaw.

This color combo knows no bounds and can work well in most any room. Navy cabinets in the kitchen are refreshing and refined, as well as in the bath. For a modern twist on the color, use a bold wallpaper in a small bathroom to wow your guests.

Navy and gold in the bedroom can make for a happy marriage. Okay, maybe it takes more than that, but between style and color navy will bring a masculine touch while the gold brings on the glitz and glamour to satisfy the ladies. Laying the colors on top of creams or white will break up the dark color for a soothing bedroom in any style and create the perfect combination for an elegant hotel vibe or a traditional retreat.

Striking and bold or subtle and sophisticated all describe the personality of navy and gold in these living rooms. From a slightly masculine direction in a New York apartment to a light hearted beach-bungalow, melding these colors together make for gorgeous moody glam sophistication.

A great place to experiment with a fresh color combination is in a dining room. Lacquer the walls in navy and drop a grand gold chandelier for high impact to liven up you dinner parties. This color match made in heaven plays well in any type of setting from traditional to modern. Bold Curtains

You know how the saying goes…Go big or go home! Curtains in bold colors and patterns can add tremendous wow factor to a room.

The more patterns the merrier. Mixing different scales of patterns surprisingly keep the overall view of the room from looking too busy. While these rooms have a pretty mellow color pallet as a whole, the mixed patterns from the rug, pillows and curtain play together in a fantastically delightful rhythm.

Don’t be scared of mixing boldly painted walls and drapes in bright hues. Even working in the same color group like the forest green lacquered walls in the following image work perfectly with the chartreuse drapes. An interesting trend to watch is mixing blues and purples, turquoise and purple. Bold moves but very appealing to the eye.

Not that brave? Popping a neutral room with a bold drape creates an exciting atmosphere, and as the trends changes, it’s a relatively easy to update.

We love floor to ceiling yellow drapes for a bedroom shared with hubby, not too girly, but brings a lovely balance of masculine and feminine when paired white black and white or charcoal grey.

The trend we are loving right now at Jigsaw Design Group…layering roman shades in bold patterns paired with dramatic drapes in vibrant colors. This look layered in a room in subtle shades draw the eye to this artistic focal point in the space.

Colors that Pack a Punch

As the clouds roll in this fall, do you find your space feeling a little dreary or in a funk? Elevate your style with a few punches of bold colors to brighten your space and boost your mood.

Even if you are a little color shy by nature, you can illuminate your space with bright pillows, throws and rugs; mixing multiple colors and patterns creates a fresh perspective for the winter season. This allows you to get the trend without committing to a more permanent item like a sofa or even painting.

High gloss Lacquer has made a big come back, and it’s not the lacquer of the 80’s, too often paired with a Nagel print. No, this lacquer trend is bold and fresh with style that will be shining on for quite some time.

Furniture designer Jonathan Adler has this market segment pegged with an enormous collection of lacquer pieces to choose from. He uses bold colors that pop the gloss to hi-def proportions and compliments each style with bold hardware options in brass or nickel. We love his Turner Cabinet with it’s modern take mixed with chinoiserie flair. This style would make a perfect console or buffet for your dining room that would wow your guests.

Brighten up your dining experience by adding a lacquer table into the mix. Whether your style is modern, transitional or hollywood regency you simply can’t go wrong with the striking look of a white or black high gloss dining table. While perfectly reflecting twinkling candle light your lacquer table will be a definite conversation starter.

Scandinavian Style

Scandinavian style in home décor is a merging trend that the Jigsaw designers are embracing with a passion. The Scandinavian design movement began in the 1950’s and still stands on a few basic principles, functionality, simplicity and clean minimal lines.

A perfect example of the functionality of the Scandinavian style home is in this small office area. The designer created an entire wall out of cork board for a unique look that adds texture and warmth while being perfectly functional for a home office.

Blurring the lines between the typical ‘modern’ style and ‘Scandinavian’ style are the textural aesthetics. Texture plays a big role in this trend with wools, fur and even crafty elements like woven items and carvings that add warmth to it’s minimalistic nature.

Another aspect of Scandinavian style is the use of natural materials. Wood floor panels that are white or grey washed, or even sanded and clear coated for the most pure finish possible are used for flooring and furnishings; for example a kitchen table or headboard for a bed.

While these homes are charming and cozy the furnishings are minimal with a more modern flair. Most often walls and linens are white yet some soft colors and cool greys are part of the palette as well. The purposeful intent is to welcome light into the home during long dark days in the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Materials with reflective surfaces for playing on light and bright pops of cheerful color as accents support this theory and keep this stream of style a constant in the Scandinavian culture.

While being white, bright and minimal the materials are given dimension with lots of layers from fur skin rugs and crochets poufs mixed with wicker lamp shades are all fused together to create a space, often small, that you can feel relaxed and at home in.

Color of the Month-Cobalt Blue

The many personalities of the color Cobalt Blue are fascinating. It isn’t a color faithful to one particular style; it can be beachy, moroccan, vintage or eclectic. It’s versatility is precisely why the Jigsaw Designers love working with it.

A cobalt wall is a bold move, but when paired with white it is a modern take on a classic style. These bright blue walls with white molding take this room from traditional to trend setting.

Break the typical rules of complimentary colors and pop a cobalt and white bedroom with purple. This surprising duo is outstanding in this bedroom with a fun ikat rug. Cobalt also plays well with turquoise and multiple shades of blues, as well as with soft orange based tones like salmon as you will see in the gorgeous room with metallic cobalt walls and salmon drapes.

Adding a color as bold as cobalt can often require baby steps for some of us. Start simple by updating your buffet or dresser for a DIY project? Placing your piece against a bright white wall will with a quirky piece of art and uniquely displayed pictures for a boutique hotel vibe.

Blue in the kitchen is a fresh take on what we’ve seen in grey so often lately. From a vintage look with gold hardware, to sleek glossy cabinetry these kitchens are cozy with a big splash of color.

Touches of cobalt throughout your space can be added easily with pendant lamps, tile work or rugs to get a touch of this bright trend. We love this moroccan tile with multiple shades of blue for a master bath.

You’ll Be Mist-Color of the Month

It’s a little bit blue and a little bit green, but more like something in between. The many hues of Mist are popping up all over and it’s a trend you don’t want to miss.

Despite our affair with pale grey or even taupe, if you are a fan, this light airy color could be just the perfect shade to make you move on. Shades of Mist range from softened blue grey to tinted minty green. These colors wash over you like spring and summer by the sea and are meant to take you there.

Want a Mist fix fast? A little paint will do the trick. At Jigsaw, our designers like using Mist by Neptune as seen on the cabinets in the kitchen below. It’s ultra soft green tones feel like a fresh take on grey in the kitchen. Another favorite is Love-In-A-Mist by Martha Stewart Living Paint color featured in entry of the home below. The color is crisp and contrasts well with the natural tones in the rest of the entry. Other shades we love are Mountain Mist featured in the powder room, and Silver Mist in the asymmetrical living room. The latter have more of a blue grey tone that is an easy transition from your typical grey.

Accessories are always an easy way to update with a trend that you don’t want to be married to. Throw pillows and rugs are an inexpensive way to add the trend. Printed pillows like these by Windsor Smith in Pelagos Mist, and the rug from homedecorators.com in Mist are a great solution for a short time commitment.

You are sold on the color Mist and are looking for more of a commitment…splurge and go for a soft Mist chair like this one at Joss & Main. The soft color and minimal lines could easily work in a bedroom or dining room for a tranquil vibe. Try an overall retro-beachy look like this space with Mist painted cane chair, trunk and accessories placed throughout the room. This look will surely make you feel like you are on vacay every day!

If you have a little time on your hands and are up for a DIY project, simply paint an existing chandelier, frames or side table in your favorite Mist shade. Recover a chair or stool to add a burst of mist for an instant room refresher.

What’s Hot in Hardware Part 3-Solid Gold Style

All that glitters is gold hardware as the modern kitchen takes it up a notch with this timeless shine.

For about a decade chrome and nickel had this market segment wrapped up. But the gold trend is growing in furniture and decor so rapidly that it has paved the way for the smaller details to flourish. Adding gold hardware to an all white kitchen adds a depth and character to the room.

The Jigsaw Designers like using a gold hardware against dark cabinets to really pop the gold. These black cabinets with gold pulls create a look that is rich and unique. Gold accessories also play well with grey tones in the kitchen or bath creating an elegant look with a touch of shine.

Don’t be held back by your stainless appliances either. Mixing metals is not just acceptable these days but encouraged. Stainless stoves next to white cabinets with gold hardware blend perfectly in the image below.

Try finding accessories with unique shapes to compliment your room but not distract. Knobs and pulls like these styles by Nanz have a retro vibe that work well in mid-century or modern homes. The wood mixed with brushed gold are simple and chic. We especially love the hipster “radio” pulls by Buster + Punch.

For the ultimate gold accessories there is nothing quite like the gold farmhouse sink by Rocky Mountain Hardware. This sink will set you back $15K, but nothing will top this in the “cool” category.

If you prefer something a bit more subtle the iron sink with gold trim might be just enough of the trend to enjoy.

Carrera marble baths have been on the rise, and while typically the hardware installed is chrome, we find mixing gold hardware a fresh and welcomed alternative. The gold piping, gold sink bowls and mirrors give this bath a lavish appearance that feels like a 5 star hotel.

What’s Hot in Hardware Part 2-Weathered Hardware

With the serge of the industrial modern home as well as the farmhouse, we see strong growth in weathered patinas in hardware. From kitchen and bath to door knobs and knockers in bronze, brass and copper alike are being installed in weathered patinas to support these styles that are going strong.

Vintage styles and shapes play well into the weathered hardware aesthetic. Restoration Hardware are experts at rebirthing antique shapes and making them fresh with a modern flair. We love the mix of reclaimed wood and bronze faucets in their Logan Washstand. Pair it with the bronze filament sconce and your bathroom is instantly updated with this timeless weathered look.

Following the vintage vibe is the classic schoolhouse fixture by Rejuvenation. The schoolhouse style flourished from the 1920’s to the 1950’s at it’s peak, found not only in schools, but homes and commercial settings. While this style of lamp has many translations, Rejuvenation has done a great job of interpreting this look and making it reasonably priced.

What’s Hot in Hardware Part 1: Rose Gold

Hardware is not just a finishing touch in the home anymore, it’s a showpiece. With sleeker styles and fresh new finishes hardware for the kitchen and bath are taking on a more important role. In previous posts we discussed how we love Rose Gold here at Jigsaw, and these hot hardware pieces are fueling our fire.

Knobs and drawer pulls are introduced in updated shapes with a modern flair, or classic with a twist. We love the polished Rose Gold dice knobs and simple drawer pulls, while typical in design the rose color gives it a fresh look. These small details result in a powerful update to your kitchen or bath.

How many hours will you log in front of the kitchen sink every week? You may as well love the faucet you’ll be spending all that time with. Who wouldn’t splurge on these Cyprum DornBracht faucets?
