Pretty in Pink-Color of the Month

opening image pink 1

Pink is not just for Barbie anymore.  2016 is fairing a very fine start for this ladylike hue.  Launching these girly vibes into the new year were top celebs on the Golden Globe red carpet.  While these divas rocked these gorgeous frocks,  the Jigsaw designers will take you down the red carpet in home decor in their pretty pink shades.

Kate Hudson nude w touch of pink

Kate Hudson dazzled in her nude meets blush beaded dress reminiscent of I Dream of Jeanine.  This soft muted tone is so neutral is can be used on a grand scale or little touches.  Like this fun puckered lips print found on etsy. Playing well with most colors, but we find it especially fun with bright yellow in this lighthearted kids space.

Alway chic and somewhat avant-guard is the lovely Cate Blanchett.

Her 20’s vibe with oodles of fringe in pale pink turned heads as usual.  The sheen of her dress and the era are reflected in this gorgeous bedroom with pale pink walls, velvet headboard and curtains.  We are also loving this pale pink glam velvet sofa with clean lines making the shape more flexible for different genres of style.

Leslie Mann won our hearts in the blush category contrary to famed Perez Hilton’s opinion.

While silk chiffon in blush was complimented by delicate beading, the Jigsaw Design team like to rock this girly color with studs.  For example this headboard with nailheads also found on Etsy.  Likewise, taking this delicate color to new heights like the cloud geometric print by Lola and Lila could we a lovely finishing touch to your space.

However having a lifetime love affair with Christian Dior we are feeling the bubble gum pink of Katy Perry’s dress, we can’t say the same for the silhouette…sorry Dior…

On the other hand, we can’t get enough of this bubble gum Eames Ball chair.  For the more conservative side, try a classic Chippendale style chair in this timeless color.

Navy and Gold:Rich and Regal

The rich and regal colors of navy and gold are this month’s dynamic color combo of the month.  These classic colors paired together make for moody comfort like no other.   Combined they elevate any style from masculine, beachy, deco, or regency.  In this post we will explore the many different looks of navy and gold, plus designer tips and picks from our design team at Jigsaw.

navy gold tuffed living-leading image

This color combo knows no bounds and can work well in most any room.  Navy cabinets in the kitchen are refreshing and refined, as well as in the bath.  For a modern twist on the color, use a bold wallpaper in a small bathroom to wow your guests.

Navy and gold in the bedroom can make for a happy marriage.  Okay, maybe it takes more than that, but between style and color navy will bring a masculine touch while the gold brings on the glitz and glamour to satisfy the ladies. Laying the colors on top of creams or white will break up the dark color for a soothing bedroom in any style and create the perfect combination for an elegant hotel vibe or a traditional retreat.

Bold Curtains

You know how the saying goes…Go big or go home!  Curtains in bold colors and patterns can add tremendous wow factor to a room.

Splatter Paint bold curt

The more patterns the merrier.  Mixing different scales of patterns surprisingly keep the overall view of the room from looking too busy.  While these rooms have a pretty mellow color pallet as a whole, the mixed patterns from the rug, pillows and curtain play together in a fantastically delightful rhythm.

Don’t be scared of mixing boldly painted walls and drapes in bright hues.  Even working in the same color group like the forest green lacquered walls in the following image work perfectly with the chartreuse drapes.  An interesting trend to watch is mixing blues and purples, turquoise and purple.  Bold moves but very appealing to the eye.

Not that brave?  Popping a neutral room with a bold drape creates an exciting atmosphere, and as the trends changes, it’s a relatively easy to update.

We love floor to ceiling yellow drapes for a bedroom shared with hubby, not too girly, but brings a lovely balance of masculine and feminine when paired white black and white or charcoal grey.

The trend we are loving right now at Jigsaw Design Group…layering roman shades in bold patterns paired with dramatic drapes in vibrant colors. This look layered in a room in subtle shades draw the eye to this artistic focal point in the space.

Emerald Curtains

For the Love of Lacquer

black laq console

High gloss Lacquer has made a big come back, and it’s not the lacquer of the 80’s, too often paired with a Nagel print.  No, this lacquer trend is bold and fresh with style that will be shining on for quite some time.

Red laq buffet

Furniture designer Jonathan Adler has this market segment pegged with an enormous collection of lacquer pieces to choose from.  He uses bold colors that pop the gloss to hi-def proportions and compliments each style with bold hardware options in brass or nickel.  We love his Turner Cabinet with it’s modern take mixed with chinoiserie flair.  This style would make a perfect console or buffet for your dining room that would wow your guests.

JA Turner cabinet blue

Brighten up your dining experience by adding a lacquer table into the mix.  Whether your style is modern, transitional or hollywood regency you simply can’t go wrong with the striking look of a white or black high gloss dining table.  While perfectly reflecting twinkling candle light your lacquer table will be a definite conversation starter.

Rossetto white lac table

Really ramp up this look with lacquer wall paint.  This ultimate brave move will work perfectly in a special common area like the dining room or a study.

black lac walls

If the love of lacquer is new to you,  then a safe starting place for this bold look is the bedroom, of course.  Start small with a pair of bedside tables like the West Elm white lacquer nightstand in the following image.  Really feeling the love of lacquer? Well, go big in kelly green with this delightful dresser from Room Service with perfectly paired gold hardware.

Touches of lacquer can mix into almost any style of home in some way.  The glossy finish adds that perfect extra layer of texture.  Play up the look with fun accessories.  Lacquer trays for tidying your kitchy goodies,  a bar tray, or even bath accessories are all quick and relatively inexpensive ways to get the trend while it’s hot.

The Perfect Powder Room

blk wht wallpaper powder

We lent a friendly reminder, in our last post, that the holidays are in fact just around the corner.  Getting ready for house guests and open houses means it is time to update and even renovate that much overlooked powder room.

archway powder

The powder room is a space that everyone will likely see whether they are a guest for the weekend or a few hours during a cocktail party.  So this room should actually be one of the most chic rooms in the home.  After all, you do have a captive audience in there.

Brick mirror powder

Since the powder room is typically a small space, it usually won’t break the bank to give it a refresher.  This is a space that you can be bold with a trend because frankly, you can change it rather easily and quickly if you tire of it.  Small rooms can still be big on style, so we’ve created a top 6 list of for a fitting update.

#1 Exotic or Moroccan Accents-If you have an eclectic or bohemian vibe in your home then Moroccan fretwork wood paneling from floor to ceiling in your tiny space can be a true piece of art.

#2 Black-don’t be afraid of the dark- If you’ve followed our blog for long you know how much we love using black here at Jigsaw Design Group. Glossy black, matte black, black paint, black tile, you see where we are going here, black is always in style and adds a touch of glam to any space.  Black can make it dressy, deco or even masculine so this haute hue is at the top of our update list.

black powder

#3 Wallpaper-Wallpaper is often the perfect answer for the powder room.  It is color, texture and artwork all wrapped into one foundational characteristic of the space.  Add a few accessories and an orchid and you’re done.  Minimal work with ample wow factor.

#5 Gold Faucets-Yep, that’s right, gold faucets, sinks, door pulls, towel rack…yellow gold, rose gold, it’s not the brass of the 80’s, this is stylish and hot and we can’t get enough of it.  Gold hardware in the small space feel rich, luxurious and on trend.

#6 Only for you showoffs-The hands free faucet- Kohler does this very well, with the in home hands free faucet, Tripoint Touchless.  This faucet is not only convenient, but also saves water with low-flow aerators.  Your guests will gush over your tech and environmental savviness.

Pop Art Office

yellow lichtiensiten

For the average person, the office is the place where a majority of the day is consumed.  With all that time spent, why not add a little kick to your daily digs and create a pop art office to liven your every-day.

blue desk

While some of us can’t afford an original Warhol, the prints are plenty.  But no need to break the bank, get creative and find unique pieces of bright pop art from a more obscure artist or simply scour the internet for a big bright piece of art that really speak to you.  This style is fairly easy to find.  Pop a piece of artwork on a wall in an all white room and accessorize with a select color from that piece and you’ve got yourself a cheerful office to make the daily grind a bit more enjoyable.

Small space pop art

Even the most serene office can carry a nice Lichtenstein or the like.   The all white office in the following image has a more traditional sensibility, but carries wow factor with the artistic focal point.  A soft grey palette with pink or yellow art create a perfectly curated work space to look forward to seeing for those forty-plus hours a week.

Scandinavian Style

scanda living rocker bright

Scandinavian style in home décor is a merging trend that the Jigsaw designers are embracing with a passion.   The Scandinavian design movement began in the 1950’s and still stands on a few basic principles, functionality, simplicity and clean minimal lines.

scand bathtub slate wall

scand bath

A perfect example of the functionality of the Scandinavian style home is in this small office area.  The designer created an entire wall out of cork board for a unique look that adds texture and warmth while being perfectly functional for a home office.

scand cork study

Blurring the lines between the typical ‘modern’ style and ‘Scandinavian’ style are the textural aesthetics. Texture plays a big role in this trend with wools, fur and even crafty elements like woven items and carvings that add warmth to it’s minimalistic nature.

scand apartment with molding

scand white brick wood table cairs scuplture

Another aspect of Scandinavian style is the use of natural materials.  Wood floor panels that are white or grey washed, or even sanded and clear coated for the most pure finish possible are used for flooring and furnishings; for example a kitchen table or headboard for a bed.

scand kitchen dining wicker pendeant

scanda bedroom mirror

While these homes are charming and cozy the furnishings are minimal with a more modern flair.  Most often walls and linens are white yet some soft colors and cool greys are part of the palette as well.  The purposeful intent is to welcome light into the home during long dark days in the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark.  Materials with reflective surfaces for playing on light and bright pops of cheerful color as accents support this theory and keep this stream of style a constant in the Scandinavian culture.

While being white, bright and minimal the materials  are given dimension with lots of layers from fur skin rugs and crochets poufs mixed with wicker lamp shades are all fused together to create a space, often small, that you can feel relaxed and at home in.

Make an Impact with Monochromatic Art

Creating a serene and welcoming space to come home to, on every level, is what we are all trying to accomplish in our homes; with function and visual appeal as the primary goals when it comes to decor.  Any room and color scheme will instantly feel calming as well as make a statement when creating a ‘gallery’ of art in the monochromatic colors.

Using multiple pieces of art in a monochromatic color scheme with the same shape and size will bring balance and symmetry to your space.  See how perfectly balanced and inviting these rooms feel with these uniformly curated walls.

For statement making walls simply use an accent color that will pop, and then go big!  We love the simplistic yellow abstracts with sleek black frames to give these walls pizzaz in this featured dining room.

Sometimes we can all take ourselves too seriously.  Often times we just need to add a little humor and a bit of whimsy to our lives.  Try a bright fun tongue-in-cheek color like these bright kelly green frames wrapping up the stairs case.  The more the merrier!

Black and white is always bold and always in fashion.  Create a chic collage of mixed black and white images or artwork for any room.  A framed collection for the eat in kitchen always feels fresh as seen here. It can also be very relaxing in a completely grey room, mixed with touches of black and white.

Succulents-Why We Love Them

Easy to grow and hard to kill…Indoor or out, the succulent has made a name for itself in home decor and we are loving it.

Leading Succulent Photo

The succulent is a hearty plant known as the fat plant, and it retains water easily in arid climates or soil conditions.  These plants are hard to kill even if you have a brown thumb.  Since succulents live in extremes temperatures often times they end up lacking water.  This can lead to a change in color.  They tend to change to dull green color when there is a lack of sunlight.  When they are well nourished and even shocked by climate change they will begin to blush; this changes the color from green to red, pink, orange, dark purple or black.

Black Succulent on Table

multi Garden

One of the many perks in having succulents in your home is how easy they are to grow.  Succulents plants can blend into many different design styles indoors in home decor, or outdoor mixed in the yard or planters.  They blend perfectly into a modern home, industrial or even traditional style home.  For example a vertical succulent garden for the industrial modern abode…a space saving delight.

Vertical Succ Garden

Outdoor succulent garden and planter ideas have no limits.  These little beauties can grow basically anywhere and in anything.  From broken pottery to old tree stumps the succulent brings new life to something forgotten, like this vintage bird cage.  A pretty touch to a patio or outdoor garden.

Creating vertical walls of succulents for a patio or large empty outdoor wall will bring visual interest to that location.  A simple frame can be filled with succulents and hung on the wall for a work of nature’s art.

With the vast variety of colors the succulents produce beautiful mosaics can be created in the  outdoor garden.  Whether horizontal or vertical the plants can be shaped along a pathway or climbing a retainer wall in patterns and shapes to add character and a serene feeling to your space.

Lining a walkway or patio in the more traditional way will always look clean and polished with succulents.  Being low maintenance and very water friendly the succulent makes the ideal plant for a busy family that is environmentally conscious.

Dainty Touches-Scallop Edges Take the Lead

This spring’s scallop edging is nothing short of pretty.  While loving our crisp clean lines here at Jigsaw, sometimes a girl just needs a little flair or extra feminine touch.  This girlie and yet streamline sitting room is clearly ladylike in blush and black, but the scallop boarder along the curtain’s edge adds cache to the overall look of the room.

If your not sure how to introduce the look into your space but you know you want it, try sheets or even a full bedding set with flirty scallop edges.  Kate Spade offers bedding that is stylish for the more modern girl.  Featured here is the Piedmont Park Duvet Cover by Kate Spade New York.  Sheets trimmed in scalloped edges look like layers of lace for the ultimate feminine touch yet still tailored and crisp.

Want the scallop look to wow?  The striking look of wallpaper for a feature wall is a grand idea.  The Jigsaw Designers love wallpaper for adding drama to a space.  The black and white scallop wallpaper below with black lacquer dresser gives a striking art deco feel that we can’t help but feel inspired by.

Furniture with scalloped edges create lines interesting for the eye to follow.  While scalloped furniture can play well in most settings we love a scallop edge table to play up a Hollywood Regency look with vintage French chairs, or a modern look with banquet seating.  A scallop couch can go shabby chic or Moroccan depending on the accessories and direction of the room.
