As summer approaches we naturally crave warm sunny colors like lemon yellow, which is arguably the happiest color in the spectrum. This cheeky color was the hot color for spring runways during New York’s fashion week. In this post we will explore fun ways to add lemon yellow to your space to catch this summer loving trend.

This playful hue has big personality and blends well with most colors. For wow factor, pop lemon yellow in a navy and white room. The look is crisp and the yellow lightens the weight of the navy creating a cheery mood.

The Jigsaw Designers love the classic look of lemon yellow with black and white that transcends time. While the following spaces have a midcentury feel they still remain sharp and modern. The cheerfulness of the yellow keeps the black and white from appearing too formal or serious. Even the restaurant in the images below with all black interiors play off as happy and light with the yellow epoxy floors.

Being a very optimistic color this natural hue, inspired by lemons, is always associated with sunshine and happiness. Yellow is proven to stimulate the mind and is believed to be physically revitalizing. The energy is obvious in the rooms below; even with the layers of bright colors the yellow is a blast of energy that brings balance to these ultra feminine spaces.

Yellow being the symbol of joy and peace in the Chinese Feng Shui theory, it can be used in any room of the home, even in the bathroom. We love these quirky tiles in the bathrooms below. The patterns are interesting and the fun pop of yellow give these small rooms a lift.

Lighten you mood with sunny lemon yellow wether a little or lot, it will brighten your day. While the list of bright yellow paint colors are great, our favorite lemon yellow is called Lemon Twist by Benjamin Moore.

What does your entry way say about your style? Crowded with tchotchkes ? Overrun with shoes? In this post we will show you quick ways to streamline your foyer and give it a little kick while keeping it functional.

We all dream of having the grand entrance fit for a king, but that’s not always realistic. Small entries are typical for city dweller and beach lovers alike. So how do you make an impact in a compact space? Rule #1, get rid of the table with knickknacks galore. Simplify with a few balanced accessories, a mirror or art work for the wall, and touch of storage or stool for removing shoes.

You’ve removed the clutter, now add the pop. No matter the scale being grand or petit, the Jigsaw team are big fans of wall paper. It’s serves many purposes; style, texture and personality! Adding wallpaper creates a bit of whimsy to the space and can serve as artwork, leaving the need for only a few finishing touches.

For an element of surprise, decorating the ceiling creates instant wow factor. We love this gold leaf ceiling in the entrance of this small apartment. The gold gives a regal appearance while remaining simple and understated.

Wallpaper is not only for the walls. The ceiling space in an entryway is usually somewhat separate from the rest of the home, so a little wall paper goes a long way. The herringbone paper in the image below is from target and is removable. If you are tired of it in a year, simply remove it!

Don’t be afraid of the dark either; dark charcoal or black walls make a statement in an entryway creating an artistic mood and setting the tone for the remainder of your trendsetting pad.

The options are endless for the standout entryway. While following a few simple rules of keeping it minimal and meticulous, yet filled with personality, your entrance is sure to be welcoming.

Global Trends-Natural Rugs

Global touches in rug trends with natural themes and materials lay a perfect canvas as we embrace today’s organic modernism. Natural products across the spectrum have been at the forefront of almost everyone’s concern, so it only seems natural that this would enter the interior design market from an overall look but also at it’s core.

Laying the foundation are the earthy natural rug trends that range from sisal to seagrass and everything in-between. Whichever natural fiber you feel is most comfortable under foot, these rugs are typically affordable and can blend into any style from traditional to modern.

There was a time when sisal was the most available fiber in this category, but now this space in the market has grown to include seagrass, jute, abaca among others. More importantly we are seeing exciting patterns and colors that will liven up any room.

Seagrass, being the most stain resistant rugs, are perfect for a dining area, bedroom or areas prone to heavy traffic. We love this all white bedroom with a seagrass area rug. It creates a soft natural look that is relaxed and airy.

Jute rugs are soft underfoot and when dyed can be woven into interesting patterns like this Serena and Lily geometric in beige and white. The Jute and Chenille chevron rugs in black and white also add an ethnic splash to any room of the house.

The abaca fiber rugs are hand loomed and can not be replicated by machines. These rugs are elegant and naturally durable. The Laguna Octagonal in natural/black by Patterson, Flynn & Martin is outstanding. The attention to detail and overall aesthetics are beautiful. The Jigsaw Design team are big fans of the Laguna Parquet collection as seen below. The large scale geometrics are classic and graceful, yet fresh and new.

The Jigsaw Designers like to layer a natural fiber rug such as jute for ample coverage, and then layer it with a fun statement making rug. It adds character to the room, as well as warmth and comfort.

As taught by the late great Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of architecture promoting harmony between human habitation and nature through design approaches and furnishings; the eco-friendly nod to nature expressed through natural fiber rugs are stunning and sensible.

When seeking the ideal finishing touches to your space, look for objects that speak to you. Unique pieces that are high quality are guaranteed conversation starters. We love the Kaleidoscope gold orb by Kelly Wearstler for a table top or console.

Gold objects with a function are a great accessory in an area that you entertain guests. These luxury games make perfect ice breakers for those just getting to know each other. How about a game of tic tac toe?

Bathe Sexy

Trends in bathrooms across every category have streamlined in style. From traditional rustic to shabby chic, styling has become more minimal with cleaner lines. Shelves opening up and an overall look of simplicity have been adapted to all styles. The most consistent trend we’ve seen and captured for our clientele is the free standing tub.

Soaker tubs and claw foot tubs have pushed the standard built in tub out for something more luxurious. It is not only more appealing visually, but it’s also more environmentally friendly. Huge oversized jacuzzi tubs are, frankly, a waste of water. And let’s face it, the kids think it’s a swimming pool and treat it as such. If you are considering a bathroom renovation a free standing tub will be the single most important aesthetic update.

Free standing tubs can be found in many beautiful styles and colors to enhance the focal point of your en suite. Try adding a standing wall mirror just behind the tub for a sexy intimate feeling, plus it adds size and depth to your bathroom. This is an added bonus to a small bathroom giving it a feeling of more space. We love this gold gilded mirror in the all white bathroom complete with molding and chandelier. In another image, a mirror within a mirror is unique and adds what appears to be an abundance of space to the narrow room.

Staying true to the industrial modern craze, the Jigsaw Designers recently installed an elegant free standing tub in a small guest bath for a client. Adding flare to the room the JDG designer used exposed brick walls to play up the industrial look and kept the sink petite and modern with minimal sconces and facets to not overwhelm the small bath. This resulted in a showcase guest bath and the client was elated.

The claw foot tub and freestanding soaker set the stage to add interesting and personal back drops. Iron windows and iron french doors in all their simple beauty create the perfect back drop for a relaxing bath to unwind in.

Preceding the backdrop and considering the tub, well, there are too many to choose from. The silver chrome-plated soaker is a stunner in the images below. Gold clawfoot tubs, black painted tubs, there are so many interpretations of this classic design that you can express yourself and let your bathroom focal point reflect your personality just like the rest of your home.

Carpet Trends for 2015

The perfect flooring can make a huge impact on the overall look and style of your space. Choosing the best option can be a challenge as flooring trends are always evolving like everything else in interiors and fashion. Hardwood floors are still primarily at the top of most of our client’s lists at Jigsaw Design Group. While trends in concrete floors, marble and tile are climbing in popularity, we are seeing a renewed love for carpet in certain rooms of the home. You can’t help but want to kick off your shoes after a long hard day of work and sink your toes into a cozy shag carpet…now can you?

Comfort is the objective in carpet trends with thick piles with rich oversized loops. These comfy styles come in the luxurious new blends of wool, silk, and linen. With vintage looks still running strong in this category, shags and plush woven animals like leopard and antelope are dominating this market segment.

Neutral carpeting will always be in style as it lays a blank canvas for the room to be built on. Creams and grey tones are top pick for the neutral lover, however, there are new twists to this typically subtle look with raised patterns and textures for added dimension. The carpet then plays an important role in unifying the feeling of the room. The Jigsaw Designers like using neutral and white carpets with a complimentary pattern for an added layer of depth.

Brace yourself for this 70’s throwback, but we are seeing a rise in bright artistic colors in carpeting again. This look is great for a small space like an office or a hallway to make a statement. Strong colors we are seeing are reds, lilacs, greens and purples. Even these spiffy new brights are maintaining the fresh looks in textures and patterns that make more of an impact on the room.

Not so daring, but want something a little fearless? Try a fun runner up your stairs. A neutral mixed with an accent color that you can play up throughout the space. It will dress up your stairs and give that space a voice. The Jigsaw Designers always embrace the menswear trend and like the herringbone runner in the images below to give a nod to this current movement.

No matter how you spin it, carpet is something you live with for a long time. So you have to love it and it has to be your style. Sometimes its good to step outside of your comfort zone and try something a little more audacious and just have fun with it.

While peeking your interest, you can’t help but have the urge to see what is just beyond the incredible pivot doors which are so inviting in this image. It’s as if you are drawn in so effortlessly by this minimalistic craft. While the entrance of your home makes the first impression on your guests, why not take their breathe away with a grand entrance with custom pivot doors.

Pivot doors have a clean and fresh approach to door design. While typically minimalistic in style, these doors can easily assimilate into most home styles. The pivot door swings on a set of mounted pins in the top and the bottom of a frame versus hinging off of a door jamb. Creating not only state-of-the-art craftsmanship, but an attraction in your home or business like a work of art.

While creating drama with an impressive entrance, these doors are also ideal for areas leading out to a back yard or patio. Especially when several are used connected together, the lines between indoor and outdoor are blurred.

These gorgeous door are not limited to the outdoors or front entrance. They can be also be used indoor for unique entrances to luxurious rooms or hallways that access master or guest suites for added privacy, or to a home office or library. Shades of Grey

As the many shades of grey prevail as the leading colors for both the fashion and home interiors market, there is no doubt that grey is the new neutral! With the era of taupe and beige long behind us, we step into the chic and lovely world of grey interiors.

This calming color while being so subtle can add such a powerful impact. From a middle tone grey in a stylish rustic modern home, or adding a relaxed elegance to a more traditional home, this versatile color has no boundaries.

The list of fabulous grey paint colors is endless, however we will discuss a few of the Jigsaw Designers favorite and most requested shades. We’ll explore shades from lightest to darkest. Starting with Farrow and Ball’s light grey called Skimming Stone that is almost taupe for those lovers of all things taupe. This shade is perfect for those looking for a change, but nothing too drastic.

Our most beloved shade in light grey is by Benjamin Moore called Grey Owl. It’s understated yet perfectly sophisticated for a calm and airy bedroom or luxurious living room.

If you are seeking a bit of drama especially for a feature wall, then a darker grey or charcoal would be a great choice. The shade Monument by Pantone Universe is our absolute favorite. A darker color makes a big impact in a small space too, so don’t be afraid to paint your bathroom, home office or other petite location in a striking charcoal color.

Complete your serene room with an overall grey palette. We love this room for it’s dark grey panels, paired with the soft grey sofa and charcoal chevron rug. There is nothing dull about this grey room where depth and elegance abound.

Layer on the grey from floor to ceiling to create an inviting and sophisticated world. The charcoal beam ceilings and grey washed hardwood floors set the tone for this modern yet seemingly cozy space. The grey sofa, white walls, and dramatic black-and-white art all blend together for an elevated look.

Grey is a safe color that plays wells with many other colors like black, white, yellow, pinks, blues and most neutrals. Depending on your style it can be a graceful backdrop for a monochromatic pallet or bold accent colors like acid yellow for a fun and arty look. How to Disguise Your TV

Let’s all agree, when it comes to your television, size does matter! Are small televisions even made anymore? However fantastic for game day the interim is rather unsightly. So as designers we find ourselves wanting to hide away the big black box on the wall which we can’t live without when we find ourselves some downtime. In this post, we explore some exciting and new ways to keep that enormous television and make it livable while not in use.

A relatively quick and easy way to blend that electronic eye sore into the room is simply by framing it out to match the rest of your space. If your windows and crown molding are white, then try matching a similar style white frame and place it on the wall surrounding your TV. Using a bright accent color will add to the room’s charm and help the TV flow together with its surroundings.

We see this scenario all the time…he wants the biggest TV he can find, and she wants a serene living room to relax or entertain in. Therefore one trend that is growing quickly in popularity we find is a happy marriage blending design aesthetics and technology. Companies like Frame My TV in Massachusetts have methods of making your Tv transition from television to mirror or framed art in an instant.

The framed mirror version is done by split beam technology that uses the black surface as the backing. The effect is incredibly clear and make for a perfect solution for a clean fluid look.

The instillation of art as a cover for the TV is also framed like the mirror, yet at the click of a button the motorized frame will slowly scroll out the image to cover the TV. Hidden tv companies coast to coast have thousands of images to choose from and can be founds rather easily online.

Imagine having the luxury of watching your favorite show and being able to completely stow it away before guests arrive for dinner. Well, now it can be done. The TV is mounted onto a rotating swivel built into the wall to be completely hidden. This is a great space saving solution for a city apartment or simply a place you’d rather not stare at a TV all day, like the kitchen.

Upholstery-The New Wallpaper

Stepping into world renowned hotels like the George V Paris, Danieli in Venice, or Ritz London you are surrounded by European elegance from the “authorities”. You take in the rich timeless furniture, draperies, and details. Yet at the heart of it are the gorgeous upholstered walls that exude luxury and lay the canvas for precious art, and to ultimately elevate style and mood. This added layer of texture creates the feeling of being wrapped in comfort while remaining stately and distinguished.

The fabric wall covering trend however popular for centuries is making a resurgence as we find ourselves more environmentally conscious in using less paper, and as always searching for the added touch of luxury to surround ourselves with in this busy world we live in.

The added comfort of the upholstered wall are ideal for the bedroom with the texture of the fabric naturally absorbing sound and making the room quieter for a more peaceful sleep. Not to mention how down right sexy the look is whether it’s a feature wall behind the bed or an entire room, you feel pampered and royal in a room like this.

Adding fabric wall coverings are an ideal solution for acoustics in game rooms and home theaters. Likewise, rooms with round or curved walls can easily be covered for a flawless look.

The misconception that a fabric covered wall lies only in the area of traditional home is highly mistaken. Upholstery can be easily translated into contemporary and modern homes giving an added warmth to a minimal space with clean lines. Whether creating a backdrop for a bedroom or being the art in and of itself in the following two dining rooms, it’s as if the walls are alive with creativity and make way for furniture to be simple and not fussy.
